Alcohol-Free New Year’s Eve Bash for Teens at Boomers!

The entertainment center will offer bumper boats, go-karts, miniature golf, laser tag and a live DJ for kids of all ages from 6 p.m. to midnight Dec. 31.

The North Coastal Prevention Coalition (NCPC) is partnering with Boomers! in Vista to offer an alcohol-free New Year’s Eve Bash with a live DJ and unlimited access to Boomers! attractions on Saturday, Dec. 31, 2011 from 6 p.m. to midnight.

The entertainment center offers a variety of attractions and games for all ages. The cost of admission is $20 for ages 13 and up, and $15 for children ages 5 to 12. Children under 5 are free.

Some people are opting to buy tickets and donate them back for needy families. Operation Hope, a homeless shelter in Vista needs 50 tickets to take all it's current clients.

Tickets are now available in person at Boomers! or online at vistixonline.com. The price of admission will increase $5 the day of the event. All children require adult supervision.

NCPC’s New Years Eve Bash will provide a family-friendly event for up to 1,000 people, and will also serve as a fundraising event for NCPC to continue programs to help prevent alcohol and drug use among youth. This alcohol and drug free family celebration will help fund community events including- 420 Remix: A Celebration of Sober and Drug Free Life Choices, Town Hall Forums on Underage Drinking and Other Drugs and Día del Niño – The Day of the Child (in collaboration with the Eastside Neighborhood Association in Oceanside).

Alcohol is the most abused drug among youth. Over one-third of 11th graders in the Tri-City region reported using alcohol in the past 30 days, according to the 2011 California Healthy Kids Survey (CHKS).  Youth often get alcohol from friends or relatives at house parties or family celebrations, like New Year’s Eve. According to local surveys conducted in 2009 and 2010, house parties were reported as the most common place for teen drinking. Some adults believe that letting their children drink at home will lessen the curiosity and help them to resist alcohol when they are not at home. The reality is that when children are allowed to drink at home, they are more likely to drink in other places.

North Coastal Prevention Coalition’s President, Mr. Aaron Byzak, understands why some parents might feel unsafe going out on New Years’ Eve. "As a husband and father of a small child, New Year's Eve is a time to lock the doors and hold up inside. The reason is too many celebrations in our society revolve around alcohol. Our New Year's Eve Bash gives the community an opportunity to celebrate the New Year in a safe, sober and drug free environment that is family-friendly," stated Byzak.

NCPC’s New Year’s Eve Bash has received a lot of support from organizations and local businesses. Sponsors include Tri-City Medical Center, Northgate Markets, The Coast News Group, and Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD).

Guests can choose to ring in the New Year at either 9:00 p.m. (New York’s New Year) or midnight.  A sparkling cider toast and noisemakers will be included with the price of admission, in addition to riding bumper boats and go-karts, playing games, miniature golf, and laser tag.

Boomers! is located at 1525 W Vista Way in Vista.
