Big Waves and a High Surf Advisory
A powerful storm near New Zealand is creating ten foot waves in Carlsbad.
Labor Day Weekend is a busy one for Carlsbad lifeguards but now they have high surf and strong rip currents to deal with.
By Thursday afternoon, California State Parks lifeguard Killian Rose said they already had to bring in multiple surfers and their jet ski is out with a lifeguard patrolling on it.
Rose believes the waves in Carlsbad Thursday at Frazee Beach near Pine Ave. and Carlsbad Blvd. were four to six feet in low tide and eight to ten feet around noon.

"The surf is supposed to hold through the weekend, so we will be on guard," said Rose. When asked if he has any advice for beach-goers he said, "listen to lifeguards, if we say it's not safe to swim, stay out of the water."
The high surf advisory went into effect Wednesday at 5 p.m. and will continue until 5 p.m. Friday, according to the National Weather Service.
