Carlsbad is Getting a Lego-Themed Hotel

Legoland California announces it will build a hotel near the theme park entrance.

announced Thursday it plans to build a three-story, 250-room Lego-themed hotel near the entrance to the theme park where the busses currently park. The hotel will have Lego décor, a pool area, and a restaurant.

Groundbreaking is scheduled for October, with completion expected in the summer of 2013.

"The resort now is far more than a one-day attraction,'' said park General Manager Peter Ronchetti. He said between Legoland, , nearby beaches and other area attractions, families will visit for two or three days now.

Mayor Pro Tem Ann Kulchin from the congratulated Ronchetti on the announcement after she rode in on Legoland California’s whimsical “Brick Mobile” pulling behind it a queen-sized bed decked out with colorful bedding and Lego brick graphics. “We’ve been waiting for this and now it’s finally happening and I’m so pleased,” said Kulchin.

This will be the first Legoland hotel in the United States, it will be the third in the world following Legoland Windsor Hotel opening in 2012 and Legoland Billund which opened a 176-room LEGOLAND Hotel in Denmark in 1991.
