Carlsbad Man Killed in 9/11 Remembered

Gerald Hardacre was returning from visiting a daughter in Boston when United Airlines Flight 175 was hijacked and flown into the World Trade Center's south tower on Sept. 11, 2001.

Osama bin Laden, the mastermind behind 9/11 was shot in the head by U.S. Navy SEALS on Sunday and buried at sea nearly a decade after the terrorist attacks that claimed 3,000 lives.

Among those killed on 9/11 was 62-year-old Carlsbad resident Gerald F. Hardacre. He was on United Airline Flight 175 from Boston when it crashed into the World Trade Center's south tower.

According to livingtributes.com, “The son of a Navy man, Hardacre spent his early childhood traveling the world before the family settled in San Diego. After graduating from San Diego State University, he became an environmental engineer and was a founding member of the San Diego Industrial Environmental Association.” In his guestbook at legacy.com, several wrote that they "worked with Gerry at General Dynamics."

Hardacre is survived by his wife, Judy, and his daughters, Kristen Hunter and Colleen Hardacre, and brother Larry.
