Carlsbad's Cinépolis Luxury Cinemas Scheduled to Open Feb. 10

The upscale movie theatre is in La Costa's Plaza Paseo Real Center where UltraStar used to be.

Reclining leather seats, waiter service during movies, and 21-and-older full bar auditoriums are some of the features Cinépolis Luxury Cinemas are bringing to town.

Cinépolis is the largest movie chain in Latin America and fourth largest in the world. This will be the chain's second location in San Diego. The first one opened in Del Mar.

Cinépolis' PR agency says they are planning on opening the Carlsbad location Feb. 10, assuming construction wraps as planned.

Cinépolis’ lobby includes a concession stand with gourmet food as well as movie classics. There is a dining area to sit in and a full bar with local beers, wines and cocktails. Adjacent to the lobby, is a lounge area with plush seating and touch screen televisions for screening movie previews.

Food and drinks can also be purchased during the movies. With a push of a button located on each guest seat, a server is alerted to take orders before the movie starts and during the movie.

Here are some stats on the theatre:

  • Number of auditoriums: 6 total, 2 with bar service
  • Number of seats: 532
  • Average number of seats per auditorium: 88.6
  • Average ticket price: $12 for kids and seniors; $19 for adults
  • Square feet of facility: 29,895
  • Hours: 11 a.m. – 1 a.m.

Each seat is a fully reclining leather chair with an armrest between every two seats that can lift up to create a couch-like loveseat. Each seat also has a swivel table and there is extra space between each row for more leg room.

Will you spend more money to see a movie at Carlsbad's new Cinépolis? Tell us in comments.

Yay! I have been waiting for this theater to re-open. The new features and design sound incredible...and a server? I may never go home.

I'd rather sit on a crate in an alley and see the Bicycle Thief than pay $25 to watch garbage like Katherine Heigl or something like Transformers.

so excited! Been waiting for this for a long time. I want to go to the grand opening, anyone know the movies scheduled that day and if online tickets are available.

San Marcos is over run with teenie boppers who are rude, talk during the movie, and send text messages. Just walking up to buy a ticket there is like walking through a high school quad.

First glass of wine is on me Carlsbad.

People have been and are still losing their homes, jobs of 20 years and self esteem, This over the top hedonism is a strange testament to the "me me me" way we think around here. Why not go to a normally over priced movie and donate a ticket to a less fortunate child (both for about the same price). Having said this, I will be there opening day because it's all about me and my comfort.

Went to La Costa for Valentine's, they were out of control, horrible service. It wasn't that busy just unorganized.......... I think? I don't know because I complained via the website and NEVER heard a thing back for them. So I won't be giving them a second chance are referring anyone their way, the biggest waste of $70 (movie, drinks, food) I've spent in a while.
