Cupid Points His Bow and Arrow at Carlsbad Walkers

Local artist Bryan Snyder set up the "...Might Be the One" art installation on the Carlsbad boardwalk to celebrate the act of falling in love.

Carlsbad resident Bryan Snyder has implemented over in the Carlsbad Village streets. This Valentine's Day he spray painted Cupid on a cardboard cut out. The little boy armed with a bow and arrow told passerby's "smile, he/she might be the one." But that was only one part of the display. Using construction cones painted in his signature drip technique in reds and pinks, and red caution tape, Snyder changed a wide path on the boardwalk into a narrow one "in a way causing strangers walking in opposite directions to acknowledge each other with eye contact, a smile and potentially an excited heart."

So did this Cupid lead to any matchmaking? It's still unseen whether it caused strangers to fall in love but it did cause many to smile. Snyder
says he "received some of the most encouraging comments today. Each person was highly interested and thankful. The project instantly became a photo opportunity."

Snyder's artwork stayed up all day before he took it down at sunset. He learned his street art does not go unnoticed. "One local couple who I had never met informed me that they follow every project I implement into the local streets and greatly appreciate all that I do for the community" said Snyder who felt encouraged by the positive public reaction.

When asked what he thinks about Valentine's day, he told Patch, "Love is the strongest emotion. There isn't a better feeling than being in love and expressing it to someone, therefore I am a big fan of Valentine's Day."
