Funeral Planned for Truck Driver Who Died on the Job

Pablo Virgen, who went by Pedro, was killed March 21 after the Waste Management truck he was driving ran him over.

Family members say those who knew him well called him Pedro. Pablo “Pedro” Virgen was a single father who leaves behind two children and a host of family. A third child, Valerie Virgen, lost her life to leukemia a little more than a year ago.

Virgen died not even a month after his 50th birthday. His . Carlsbad police and firefighters found him around 10 a.m. March 21 on Bluewater Road with a severe injury to his torso.

According to Lt. Marc Reno with the Carlsbad Police Department, “It appears the driver was the sole occupant of a Waste Management trash truck who had fallen out of his vehicle for an unknown reason. After falling out of his vehicle, the driver was run over by his own vehicle.”
