Local Parents React to Casey Anthony Trial 'Not Guilty' Verdict

The outcome of the high-profile case has many shaking their heads in disappointment.

A high profile case involving a mother on trial for the murder of her 2-year-old daughter Caylee has come to a close. Casey Anthony was found not guilty Tuesday in an Orlando courtroom. The verdict sent a shock wave of public outrage on sites like Facebook and Twitter. Our Mom and Dad council weighed in on whether the jury made the right choice.

Ray Pearson: This is painful to see especially a child not having the justice due her memory being rendered. I am proud to be an American and support our justice system but recognize it is not perfect. I think this is one of those cases that our justice system failed Caylee. Hopefully over time more will be revealed and Casey Anthony will have more revealed in her life.

Carol Yeh-Garner: I really have no opinion about the Casey Anthony trial. I don't watch the news very much to keep myself from only hearing about the negative in life, so I've only seen bits and pieces ... definitely not enough to form an opinion about what truly happened. It's a tragedy that that little girl is dead and I hope that now that they've found her to be not guilty, that they can focus on finding out who really killed her daughter.

Genevieve Suzuki: Like it or not, our justice system is premised upon “innocent until proven guilty.” For the prosecution to win this case they needed to prove each element that goes into each charge. If the prosecution’s case lacked direct evidence they needed to really sell that jury on the circumstantial evidence pointing to the defendant’s guilt. It doesn’t seem they were successful—rather, the jury clearly had reasonable doubt. Most of the time, as an attorney, I’m relieved to know our justice system works. This time, however, I can’t help feeling more than a little disappointed about the whole thing. I guess that’s me as a mom speaking versus me the attorney.

Stacey Ross: As a mom of a young girl this is very emotional, to say the least. If there was not enough to remove reasonable doubt for jurors, then our justice system, in this case, is working to the advantage of an outcome many wish were different. I can’t speak any more specifically than that, but I do urge anyone who sees parents that have similar behavior to pick up the phone and report it. Some people have zero business playing parents.
