Retired Congressman Ron Packard Keeps Busy at 81
Packard's influence is still felt in Carlsbad and in other cities in San Diego County.
After serving 18 years as a United States Congressman, from 1983- 2001, long-time Carlsbad resident, and former Mayor of Carlsbad, Ronald Packard still keeps busy as a lobbyist, and a great-grandfather to 35 great-grandchildren.
He is one to shrug off compliments with a smile, and downplay the fact that a local highway is named after him. There is a post office named for him too, but who's counting. Certainly not him. He says he has had a productive and enjoyable life as an elected official, and now into his 10th year if retirement, he's still busy with a couple of projects.
