Fifth-grade students at Jefferson Elementary in Carlsbad collected coins for three days to help kids with Leukemia.

The fifth-graders at Jefferson Elementary are learning about the heart, white and red blood cells, and how the body works. They applied their science curriculum into a fundraiser to help children with Leukemia.

After three days of putting up posters around school, going door-to-door, and breaking open piggy banks, the students raised almost $3,000 for the Leukemia Society.

Laurel Ferreria's fifth-grade class raised the most money. The students became incredibly motivated to pull together more donations after finding out their classmate's brother is battling leukemia.
