Teen Bands Rock the Library

Carlsbad City Library's Rock the Library concert series features MonoMood on May 17, Tragic Waste on May 24 and Relentless Nation on June 7.

Award-winning teen bands will rock Carlsbad City Library for the Rock the Library concert series featuring MonoMood on May 17, Tragic Waste on May 24 and Relentless Nation on June 7. All concerts take place from 7-8 p.m. in Carlsbad City Library’s , 1775 Dove Lane.  Admission is free and concerts are fun for families and teens.  

The Rock the Library concert series features the top three winning bands from the City of Carlsbad Parks & Recreation Department’s held in January 2012. 

May 17: MonoMood began as Libido in 2008 with founding  drummer Mikey Carnevale and guitarist Elias Cruz-Zamora, and has since added Adam Lomnitzer on drums and Alex Zoppi on bass. Winners of the City of Carlsbad’s Battle of the Bands, their music is indie/rock flavored by a funky sound similar to the Red Hot Chili Peppers. According to Carnevale, they just finished recording a three-song EP at Newport Beach's Hurley Studios and the new music will soon be available at facebook.com/MonoMood. “You can expect very high energy at our shows with a bunch of originals as well as a few covers,” said Carnevale. “Playing gives a rush we get from nothing else and we're always stoked to perform.”

May 24: Tragic Waste features Alec Beretz (guitar), Jake Smith (drums) and Andrew DaRe (bass). They recently placed second at the Battle of the Bands at Westfield North Couny Mall. According to the band, their music is: “A cup of ska, a cup of punk, a dash of metal, a tablespoon of pop-punk, a pinch of grunge, blended, balled and deep fried in some old fashioned rock 'n’ roll and garnished with reggae. The end result is a Tragic Waste, because you can't eat any of that. But shoving it in your ear drums generally produces good results, and is, in fact, highly beneficial to your health.” Check them out at tragicwaste.net

June 7: Relentless Nation is a San Diego progressive rock band. Members Ari Shiller (guitar/lead vocals), Aaron Day (drums), Daniel Martinez (bass/vocals) and Ethan Opdahl (guitar/vocals) compose and perform original music. They range in age from 14 to 16 and fans of their music have asked, “Are you really only 14?” Some of the venues they have played include Epicentre, Brick by Brick and the . Their June concerts include the Voodoo stage at the San Diego House of Blues (June 19 at 8pm) and San Diego Fair's Coors Light Rock on Stage (June 24 at 2:30pm).
