Writing it Down with Carlsbad City Library

Carlsbad Author, Screenwriter, Lecturer and "Journaling Queen" Erica Miner will lead a free workshop on Nov. 19.

Journaling is such an empowering tool, that Oprah Winfrey credits it for saving her life. On Nov. 19, Carlsbad City Library will host a journaling workshop led by Carlsbad resident and award-winning author Erica Miner.

“Journaling can be anything from life enhancing to life saving,” said Miner. “Getting your thoughts out of your head and onto the page is possibly the best therapy in the world. By writing down your thoughts and feelings you gain insights about yourself that might never have occurred to you otherwise. When you go back and read your journal entries, you will be able to see how you’ve progressed in your life journey.”

In this workshop, based on her popular, top-rated lecture series, Miner brings an expertise developed over a near-lifetime of journaling. She strives to provide motivation and inspiration "to those who are interested in journaling, whether they’ve never journaled or have journaled before and would like to get started with it again.”

As for the workshop itself, Miner shared, “I’ll discuss famous people we’ve learned about through their journals; give specific hints, techniques and methods for journaling; and lead the group in some writing exercises that will help get them jumpstarted on their journaling.” Attendees will also come away with a journaling resource sheet and the latest research on the benefits of journaling.

In addition to being a “journaling queen,” Miner has a strong background in music, which has fueled her writing.

“I have been drawing on my experience as a violinist at the Metropolitan Opera in New York to give opera lectures and have committed to an ongoing article series for the website OperaPulse.com,” said Miner. “I’m also in the process of writing a new screenplay about a famous musician that I worked with in my former musical life.”

Without a doubt, Miner’s years of journaling inspire her work.

The workshop will be held in Carlsbad City Library’s Gowland Meeting Room from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Space is limited and registration is required. For questions or to reserve a space, call 760-602-2012.
