Little Italy Parking District Announces New Commuter Shuttle Service

Little Italy Association (LIA) will launch a commuter shuttle service to transport people from Santa Fe Depot to the Little Italy neighborhood while the community’s trolley stop undergoes a massive construction overhaul as part of the SANDAG/MTS Trolley Renewal Project.

Beginning on Monday, Aug. 20, passengers who regularly connect to the Little Italy/County Center Trolley Stop, via Santa Fe Depot, can now hop aboard a free shuttle to bring them to Little Italy or take them from Little Italy to the Santa Fe Depot Trolley Stop.  The shuttle will run Monday – Friday from 7 – 9 a.m. and from 4 – 6 p.m. with passenger pick-up/drop-off locations at three stops in Little Italy/Downtown San Diego: (1) Santa Fe Depot (1050 Kettner Blvd, San Diego, CA 92101), (2) the corner of India and West Cedar Streets, and (3) the corner of Kettner and West Cedar Streets. The shuttle will be identified as “Free Little Italy Commuter Shuttle”

for passenger pick-up at the location bus stop areas.

“We’re stepping in to fill the gap where our business members and residents need support,” said Luke Vinci, Chair of the LIA Parking District Committee.  “With this program, area businesses owners can count on their employees getting to work on time and residents finding an easy transition to get to the Santa Fe Depot during peak commuter hours without having to opt for a hefty walk or other means.”

LIA has committed to providing the free shuttle to ease commuter access to and from the neighborhood until the SANDAG/MTS Trolley Renewal Project is complete, which is expected by early October of this year.  LIA has contracted this service as part of its Parking District resources for the neighborhood with an outside shuttle service, SureRide, Inc.  The Parking District Committee will be working closely with SANDAG/MTS to provide signage and communications on the new shuttle service to trolley, bus and train passengers who are affected by the temporary station closure. Questions can be directed to LIA by visiting www.littleitalysd.com.
