The four new townhomes involved in the project will provide housing outfitted with state-of-the-art furnishings adapted to the needs of disabled veterans.
Carlsbad, CA – Linear LLC employees recently volunteered with framing and other build efforts during a San Diego Habitat for Humanity (SDHFH) Building for the Brave project in Lakeside, CA. SDHFH and their volunteers are building four townhomes and offering affordable homeownership packages to disabled veterans and their families. When complete, the homes will be adapted to the needs of disabled veterans including technology and furnishings donated by Linear and others to create a highly functional living space. Applications are still being accepted for interested veterans, details available here.
“We’re thankful for the Linear employees who brought construction and home building experience to this important phase of our Building for the Brave project,” said SDHFH director of development Elizabeth Berg. “Without the help of volunteers, our mission of bringing people together to build homes, communities and hope wouldn’t be possible.”
15 Linear volunteers donated time in October to help with framing and structural work for the townhomes, which are scheduled to be complete in the summer of 2014. Since most Linear employees live in the San Diego area, they see firsthand the sacrifices local servicemen and women make.
“The Linear team members who volunteered for this important cause should feel proud they are doing something to help repay those who serve with honor and sacrifice so much for our country,” said Michael O’Neal, Linear president. “Habitat for Humanity does amazing work around the world and we’re proud to support the Building for the Brave project.”
Habitat programs are focused on creating homes for ownership by low-income families in need, offering a hand up, not a handout. Habitat homes are sold to Partner Families at no profit and are financed by a 0%-interest 25 to 30-year mortgage. The mortgage payments create a revolving fund that Habitat uses to construct future homes for local families in need.
With a legacy of support for the Carlsbad area, Linear is committed to several community-building initiatives, including: a food drive for the San Diego Food Bank that raised over 6,000 lbs. of non-perishables, a Meals-on-Wheels event sponsorship, a founding patron of the La Costa Film Festival to benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Carlsbad and various donations to benefit the athletic programs for Carlsbad’s two public high schools.
