SDSU Offers Intensive Austrian/German Wines Course

The Professional Certificate in the Business of Wine program through SDSU’s College of Extended Studies is designed to prepare you for success in wine-related occupations. Through engaging discussion and directed tastings, The Business of Wine courses let you experience the world of wine twofold: wine education and business education.

The College will be offering an intensive course focusing on Austrian/German Wines Mondays, July 14-21, 6-9 pm. This class will showcase an understanding of wines and the regions of The Mosel, Nahe, Rheingau, Rheinhessen and Pflaz regions of Germany.

For Austria the focus will be on Niederosteriech. There will be historical understanding of the area, the people that lived there and why they do what they do so well.

Instructor Jesse Rodriguez is an advanced sommelier and certified wine educator (CWE) who works for the Montage Laguna Beach. Cost of the course is $239 or $269 after July 6.

Students must be at least 21years of age to enroll in these courses. Eddie Zavestoski was just out of college when he decided to be adventuresome and take the Business of Wine certificate program. Little did he know that it would lead to him becoming a tasting room sales lead in Oregon’s Willamette Valley, where he attributes his career to the SDSU wine program.

“The certificate program instructors work in the business and are very knowledgeable,” Zavestoski says. “They are very willing to answer questions. They make sure everything is clear.”

SDSU's College of Extended Studies reaches out to the greater San Diego community, the nation, and the world through a wide variety of lifelong learning classes, seminars, and certificate programs. Career advancement courses are offered in many areas of management, leadership, and quality improvement while self-enrichment courses range from accounting to web design.
