Carlsbad Nonprofit Donates Kitchen and Lunchroom Items to Local Organizations

Carlsbad organizations including Pacific Ridge, Project Walk and the Carlsbad Boys and Girls Club all benefited from a donation from SDG&E to Carlsbad-based Sustainable Surplus

A recent donation of items from San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) benefited ten local nonprofits through the services of Carlsbad nonprofit Sustainable Surplus Exchange.

The donated kitchen and lunchroom items were the result of a recent renovation project to refurbish SDG&E’s conference rooms and break rooms.

Rather than selling or sending the items to landfill, SDG&E chose to donate them to Sustainable Surplus Exchange – a local nonprofit that repurposes surplus assets to the community.

Exchange executive director, Sue Prelozni told Carlsbad Patch, "Pacific Ridge and Project Walk received refrigerator/freezer combo units. The Carlsbad Boys and Girls Club received lunchroom chairs -- all matching -- which was nice because they've had a mish-mash of chairs until now!"

“Sustainable Surplus provides an incredible service to not only the nonprofit community, but to area businesses,” said Pat Maldi, Director of Marketing and Special Events at the Boys and Girls Club.

The goal of Sustainable Surplus is to help corporations raise their conscience of the environment by keeping surplus out of the landfill.  In turn, they support their local community.  “It is a win-win for all,” said Prelozni.
