Coin-Operated Telescope at Hilton Carlsbad Oceanfront will Benefit Boys & Girls Clubs of Carlsbad

The telescope will be placed directly on the property grounds for use by hotel guests, restaurant diners and visitors.

Celebration Ceremony Set for December 6 at 4 p.m.

Hilton Carlsbad Oceanfront Resort & Spa is partnering with Boys & Girls Clubs of Carlsbad to raise funds for young residents of the city while enhancing the resort experience.

Members of the Boys & Girls Clubs will maintain a coin-operated telescope, collect its funds, account for them and then determine what they will be used for, including conference attendance, training and local youth programs.

The innovative collaboration will bring a fun and entertaining new activity to guests and visitors at the ocean-view resort, as the telescope will offer magnificent close-ups of nearby waves, pelicans and seabirds, as well as watercraft and even whales migrating to the north and south of the waters off Carlsbad Beach.

The new telescope will be unveiled at Hilton Carlsbad Oceanfront Resort & Spa at 4 p.m. on Thursday, December 6. During the unveiling, young members of Boys & Girls Clubs of Carlsbad will be on hand to introduce the program and to explain what it means to them in their efforts to gain real-world entrepreneurial and business experience. The public is invited to the launch event, which represents an added step in the existing partnership between the non-profit organization and Hilton Carlsbad Oceanfront Resort & Spa.

“The folks at Hilton Carlsbad have always been generous to the Boys & Girls Club,” said Club CEO Brad Holland. “The donation of this telescope takes our relationship to a new level, and allows our teens the experience of a real-world business opportunity. We are so pleased to be a part of this collaboration!”

Hilton Carlsbad Oceanfront Resort & Spa and its sister property, Hilton Garden Inn Carlsbad Beach, earlier donated $50,000 to the Boys & Girls Clubs’ capital campaign, contributing to the construction of its new Carlsbad Clubhouse in Bressi Ranch. Additionally, the late Jeff Chandler, early owner and visionary for Hilton Carlsbad Oceanfront Resort & Spa and namesake for its Chandler’s Restaurant and Lounge, donated significant funds to help build the non-profit organization’s new gym lobby.

“We are thrilled to support our friends and neighbors at Boys & Girls Clubs of Carlsbad,” said Bob Moore, general manager, Hilton Carlsbad Oceanfront Resort & Spa. “It is an honor to share their telescope with our guests, and we look forward not only to supporting ongoing fund-raising events for the organization, but also to presenting its members with an opportunity to explore hospitality-related career options with our property.”
