Committee Selects Three Finalists for City Treasurer

The Carlsbad City Council plans to discuss the applicants in closed session and make a decision at its March 26 meeting.

The finalists for city treasurer made brief presentations Tuesday morning before the City Council.

Craig Lindholm, a wealth management advisor at Northwestern Mutual Wealth Management Company; Michael Williams, the former elected city treasurer of Colton, Calif. for 18 years; and Ron Araujo, chief financial officer of Mission Federal Credit Union; highlighted their qualifications and experience during the workshop. An ad hoc committee comprised of Councilman Keith Blackburn and Councilwoman Lorraine Wood selected the three finalists from a field of 20 applicants.

“The committee evaluated the applicants based on their work experience, education and other qualifications and narrowed the group to the three who were invited to make a presentation at Tuesday’s workshop,” said city spokeswoman Kristina Ray.

More than half of the city treasurer applicants submitted applications on the last day of the filing period, Ray said. The position has been vacant since the former city treasurer, . Comstock had been elected to a four-year term in November 2010.

The City Council is expected to discuss the applicants in closed session and make a decision at its March 26 meeting. The city treasurer is appointed by a majority vote of the City Council, and the selected candidate must be sworn in by March 31, Ray said.
