Carlsbad City Library offers summer reading fun for everyone when the annual Summer Reading Program begins on June 18. Running through Aug. 3, the program features reading incentives, entertainment and reading recommendations for all ages. Additionally, summer reading has many benefits for students including encouraging a lifelong habit of reading and helping kids keep their reading skills sharp during summer months away from school. Sign up by visiting any Carlsbad City Library location.
Babies and Toodlers: Little Readers, Big Dreams
This special Summer Reading Program for babies and toddlers, from birth up to age three, helps young ones get ready for reading. Parents and caregivers perform reading activities with babies and receive incentives along the way.
Children: Dream Big – READ
The children’s program for ages 3 through 6h grade includes special events each week, from magicians to movie nights and more! Kids can read anything or be read to and earn prizes when they report on what they’ve read. Good news about keeping kids reading over the summer: eight out of 10 studies indicate students who read recreationally out-performed those who don’t, according to the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.
Teens: Own the Night
Teens in grades 7th through 12th can earn radical rewards and tasty treats from local restaurants by reading books, magazines and more. Teens are also invited to special events throughout the summer, including the chance to own the night by participating in the library’s July and August teen talent shows.
Adults: Between the Covers
Adults 18 and older are invited to share favorite books with us by submitting brief reviews. Each review enters you in a weekly drawing for a bookstore gift card. You can also receive a new library tote bag.
