Free Seed Swap in Carlsbad

Activities for all ages are being hosted by the gardeners at the Harold E. Smerdu Community Garden on Saturday, September 29, 2012 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at 1250 Laguna Dr., Carlsbad, California 92008.

Children and adults alike can enjoy swapping seeds and plants, learning about composting and vermiculture (worms), interacting with knowledgeable gardeners, touring Carlsbad’s historic community garden, signing up for a poster contest, and taking home goodie bags.

Bringing the Garden Home is the theme for the local event which coincides with National Public Lands Day.  Teaching children the importance of eating well, how to grow healthy food, and care for the environment are positive messages presented with interactive demonstrations.

Guest speaker premier gardening instructor, Diane Hollister, will be presenting ‘Three Choices for the Fall Garden’, at 1:30 p.m.  Topics are fall vegetables, cover cropping and different ways to mulch the garden.

The event is enthusiastically sponsored by Point Loma Credit Union of Carlsbad (PLCU).  Community and business participants include the Carlsbad Community Gardens Collaborative (CCGC), whose mission is to assist in establishing more community gardens in Carlsbad.

CCGC is kicking off their Smokey Bear/Woodsy Owl poster contest for grades one through five, and distributing their EarthBox educational garden kits to Carlsbad teachers who have signed up for this CCGC program. For more information: carlsbadcommunitygardens.org/

Pharmaca Integrative Pharmacy will be present with their healthful giveaways.  Located at 6985 El Camino Real, Suite 103, Carlsbad, CA 92009, Pharmaca offers organic health products, regularly hosts presentations and participates in events sharing health and wellness with the community.

Excitement is also brewing around a popular food truck, Bitchin Burgers, who may be nearby offering a menu using only grass fed beef, local organic produce, dairy free veganaise sauces, unique spices, and buns with no preservatives from the Sadie Rose Bakery.

Parking is recommended along Laguna Drive, in the Cole Library Parking Lot and the City of Carlsbad City Hall parking lot off Pio Pico.

'...MPH degree program to attend a 3-day workshop ... challenge the CNA licensure examination inRead More California.... ... Aristotle felt that by becoming licensed professionals in the U.S. shortly after their arrival to the shores of the U.S., they would have a greater opportunity to receive better clinical positions when they applied for the work-study internships that they were eligible to participate in....' the school told students that were enrolled in masters' degrees that certification as a cna was part of the road to obtaining a masters degree ?? stop right there... masters in public health is an administrative position that has nothing to do with being a cna....and i'm sure people didn't travel thousands of miles to do the grunt work in a hospital.... yea, getting a cna license is a great suggestion for an 18 year old that's going into the nursing field....but not for someone in the masters' program.... and fyi phony college.....in this country a person has to have a 4 year degree before they can apply for the masters' program....
