Is Carlsbad's Dog Poop Problem Getting Worse?

There always seems to be at least one pile of dog poo to avoid on the coastal sidewalk south of Pine.

A Carlsbad Patch user recently posted to our Boards section that the sidewalk along the coast especially between Pine and Tamarack in Carlsbad is getting gross.

Comments on both Patch and our Facebook page seem to be in agreement that the dog poop problem is getting worse.

Carlsbad Patch reached out to Kristina Ray with the City of Carlsbad to find out if anything is being done about this problem and what the cleaning schedule is for 2014.

Ray told Patch, "The city recently increased the power washing schedule through a new contract with Urban Corps.  Right now we do it once a month in the winter and will reassess the schedule for the spring and summer.  We also sweep the sea wall weekly."

On Jan. 2 I only found two piles of fresh dog poo between Tamarack and Pine, but there are plenty of stains on the sidewalk from previous piles left behind by owners who don't carry a bag or grab one the free ones provided along the coast.

What do you think should be done? Do you think the problem is getting worse?
