Mini Golfers Have a Blast Putting Through the Library

Mini Golf "fore" for the Library festival on Sept. 18 was a memorable event for all ages.

Mini Golf “fore” the Library featured something for everyone: nine holes of miniature golf, arts activities, face painting, food from Carlsbad restaurants, a silent auction and live music by City Limits and an Elvis impersonator. This year’s event was held on Sept. 18 and drew more than 250 golfers, including 155 kids.

“The support from the community was wonderful,” says Carlsbad City Library and Cultural Arts Director Heather Pizzuto. “From the many volunteers who helped coordinate the event to the community sponsors and attendees, we were pleased to have so many people enjoying the library in this ‘novel’ way!”

Proceeds from the event benefit the Carlsbad Library and Arts Foundation’s mission to seek, cultivate, and provide financial support for the city's library and cultural arts programs.  This year alone, the Foundation has contributed $71,000 to fund programs held in the library’s Ruby G. Shulman Auditorium, as well as exhibitions and arts education at the Cannon Art Gallery.

“Attendees raved about the live music and delicious food,” comments Neil Black, President of the Carlsbad Library and Arts Foundation. “Parents told us their kids had been looking forward to playing mini golf in the library all year long. It was a pleasure seeing so many families enjoying the festival-like atmosphere.”

Main sponsors of the third Mini Golf “fore” the Library festival included Point Loma Credit Union, Setting It In Stone and Novak. There were more than 50  donations for the silent auction provided by Callaway Golf, TaylorMade Golf, Jimbo’s … Naturally, Trader Joe's and Peet's Coffee & Tea, among many others. Food was provided by Garcia’s Mexican Restaurant and Joey’s Smokin’ Barbecue.
