Noise Alert: Camp Pendleton Will Train with Powerful Explosives

Training will take place this week and may be heard up to 50 miles away.

North County residents may hear loud booms coming from Camp Pendleton today as Marines train with powerful explosives designed to clear land mines.

The training involving the detonation of 1,750 pounds of linked C-4 explosives is scheduled to continue daily through Friday, according to Pendleton's public affairs office.

Also on Friday, Marines are scheduled to conduct mortar fire training from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

"Depending on atmospheric conditions, the sound of the explosions may be amplified and heard up to 50 miles away," base officials said in a statement.
