Strong Rip Currents, High Surf Expected Again at San Diego Beaches

Strong rip currents and elevated surf are expected along the San Diego County coastline again Friday, but should lessen by the afternoon.

A National Weather Service high surf advisory for the county's coastal areas is scheduled to remain in effect until 6 p.m.

Sets along exposed west-facing beaches could reach up to nine feet, NWS forecasters said.

Strong rip currents are likely, especially during the transition from high tide to low tide during late morning and early afternoon hours, NWS meteorologists said.

Minor flooding in low-lying coastal areas, such as beach parking lots, could occur during high tide, forecasters said. Localized beach erosion could also be possible.

National Weather Service meteorologists said a large west-northwest was creating higher surf along the beaches. The swell and surf are expected to decrease this afternoon.
