Viral Video: Carlsbad Man Shares 'Whale' of a Tale

Two giant humpback whales broke the surface of the water, almost swallowing the divers in one fell swoop, as captured in the video.

Jeremy Bonnett has one heck of a fish tale – OK, mammal.

Over the weekend, the Carlsbad man and some friends were snorkeling and scuba diving near Souza Rock, off Morro Bay on the central California Coast.

According to 10News, Bonnett was on the boat's stern filming their friends when the water began to bubble up with a large school of fish. Seconds later, two giant humpback whales broke the surface  of the water, almost swallowing the divers in one fell swoop.

"We knew something was going to happen. I thought maybe a sea lion. Then moments later, the whales came up," Bonnett told 10News.

The video, posted on Youtube on July 20, quickly went viral and already has 4.7 million views.

The video features some choice words, but let's face it – dudes almost got eaten by the largest animals on the planet.  As one of the observers said, quite astutely, "You're gonna need to do more to clean that wetsuit."

Bonnett's interview with 10News will be Wednesday at 5 p.m.
