While I would LOVE to win a mini "Staycation"...there is a member of our community who could really benefit from having the opportunity to "refill her cup" by being treated to a special night away. She is truly an Angel in Carlsbad - established a non-profit to help those dealing with illness (physical and mental) with the challenges of daily living. She helps our local Seniors, local kids and families here, there and everywhere. She does all of these things quietly and with grace all while dealing with some of her own challenges at home. Despite having had a year filled with personal loss and difficulties, she continues to dedicate her time, money and energy to others. She is a local hero and this would be a wonderful gift to her from the town she calls home!

I don't need a staycation, but my wife does. She's a stay at home mom of 4 kids and home-schools all of them. Our youngest is in kindergarten and our oldest is in high school. She's been doing it for 14 years without a break. Even when we go on "vacation" she's still on the clock. She's had her fair share of "Hilary Rosen" comments directed at her and I can tell you that her job is way more difficult than mine. No doubt about it. I also know if she won the staycation, she wouldn't leave our kids at home... they'd be going too. We live just 5.2 miles away too!

We have been fostering a puppy for the last couple of weeks with hopes to adopt or find him a wonderful home. He is a sweet little guy but he has really got us "pooped". We call him shadow because he follows our every move. He provides a lot of love and affection but the early morning and late night walks and constant training has left us a bit sleep deprived. A nice staycation sounds like just what the doctor ordered.

My husband has been dealing with his mother that hospice told him yesterday "that she is not long for this world". He needs a staycation . I would love to go to the spa with my daughter. I would love to have cocktails by the pool too. I work sooo much I need to decompress, sales are never easy!

We need a "staycation"! My husband and I are about to have our 10 year anniversary and we have no prospects of getting away. He is a teacher and I'm a speech therapist in schools. With budget cuts, salary reductions and increased workloads, morale is low. We are on the home stretch toward summer but can't get away for long because of time and money constraints. We've never left our two kids, ages 6 and 4. Vacationing in our hometown sounds perfect as a first time away from our "babies".

My girlfriend and I could sure use a "staycation" I was just telling her how it is a shame that we live in such a beautiful part of the world and do not get to enjoy it to the fullest. Life gets so busy sometimes. I often wonder why we pay the high cost of living here if we don't take advantage of the beautiful oceans everyday. Then we go for a walk in Carlsbad on a hazy morning and realize that we could never move away. I graduate from UCSD this June so the last two years have been so busy for me with school and work. My girlfriend is also trying to become a nurse and works as a waitress in Carlsbad. She has two beautiful daughters which will one day be my step children. They live with her parents and I live with roommates, we are waiting to get married before we move in together. I want to wine and dine her and take her on vacations and all those things a woman deserves, but we usually settle for the responsible thing to do and that is stay home for the weekend and be frugel with our money so we can each chip away at our debt and have fun when we have our careers going. We are just happy to be in love and look forward to marriage when we can come together as a family. Maybe if I received this 'staycation' it would be the perfect time and place for me to propose to her. :)

I just want to enjoy the spa & lounge by the pool all day & sleep in a nice quiet clean room. Ahhhhh, staycation...just sounds SO relaxing.

I'm having a baby in May. A staycation would be the perfect babymoon for me and my husband. We live in a house with my uncle, 6 year old cousin, and sleep with two big dogs a bed to ourselves before the baby comes would be paradise!

I need this "Staycation" for my mothers 60th Birthday on April 25th. She's alway doing special things for other people and deseves something in return for once. This would just make her day if it actually happend. If she were to win she'll probably offer to make you a custom CarlsbaPatch quilt. Happy 60th Birthday Mom!

Why travel to a beutiful destination when that place is right here in Carlsbad!
Rebecca April 13, 2012 at 08:20 PM
of course I would LOVE this for myself Carlsbad is one of my favorite local beaches BUT to win this for my mommy of 67 (birthday is May 3rd) she never spends any of her money on herself she gives and gives and gives (your typical Italian mama). To watch her spend a little time pampering herself would be an awesome gift. She hasn't had a vacation for at least 20 years!!

One night wouldn't do us any good. We would actually need a whole week. Or a month! After living in beautiful Carlsbad for eleven years, we lost our home and had to move in with family 1500 miles away. We left in the middle of the school year and the kids have been devastated. It's the toughest thing we've gone through as a family and we miss our home, friends, church, the beach, the weather and even favorite radio stations! You are all so blessed to still be living in one of the most beautiful spots in the country. Enjoy it to the fullest!!

This one came in through email to me so I'm posting it here: My partner is a high school Math teacher who teaches calculus and pre algebra to 180 adrenaline filled highly emotional teenagers every day. She comes home every day exhausted and grateful she never had kids. She loves kids but 180 of anything is way too much. She still has at least 9 more fun filled weeks left spending it with kids who are already planning their summer escapades. Please consider her for a stay cation so she can retain her sanity for another year.

Hi there, My name is Ashley and my husband is Mark. We have a two year old son. I have been with my Marine for 4 years as of April 24th and we have yet to take our first "vacation". He is always working with a hectic schedule and we never seem to find the time or money to even have a "staycation". Unfortunately, we haven't even been on a honeymoon. I am a stay-at-home mom and have been the past 3 years due to our son. I have been constantly asking him about trying to make up for a honeymoon by having a small romantic "staycation". I can honestly say that we would enjoy the pool area and possibly a couples spa treatment. We would not only consider this a "late wedding gift" or anniversary gift but we would also consider it to be the best Mother's day treat as well. We have a 3lb chihuahua that would also joining us on this wonderful day. I feel that my husband deserves this way more than I do. I think even one night away from "home" would relieve a lot of stress off of all of us and be able to relax and have a good time. It is sad that we live in California and we do not get to enjoy it as much as we would like to due to money issues. We also both go to College. He is studying for Criminal Justice to become a Police Officer, while my disability of being deaf is not stopping me from becoming a CAD and Design Technology major. I think my Marine and son deserve to have a great time without the stress of finances.

After reading all these stories...everybody should get a "staycation". I don't think this will be an easy "pick." (Hopefully this isn't some kind of timeshare gimmick) As for me, my life got turned upside down when I found my mother dead in her home...massive heart attack. The night I found mom, I took my severely autistic brother home with me. Mom did not have any of her affairs in order. So for the past 5 months I have been dealing with probate, conservatorship and other related issues concerning my dear brother and cleaning out Mom's residence (she was a hoarder) and oh yes...we just had a flood in my kitchen from the upstairs bathroom. Is there any more room on my plate? ...Yes for a "staycation". Especially for my husband. He has been a saint through all of this. Thanks for listening.

No gimmicks, this is the real thing. NO timeshare talks or anything like that. I agree, every story deserves this staycation and it will be near impossible to pick just one. Many of these comments have made me teary-eyed. We'll have a panel of judges, so the decision will not rest with just one person.

My father has had a rough year-- his wife recently left him, and she took his dogs with her. The dog he has left is 15 years old and slowly dying, and my dad calls me every week or so, and says he worries he will have to be put down. He also had a surgery regarding a prostate scare. And several coworkers in his branch quit, leaving himself and one other person to man a two-person crew. On top of all this, my father lent me money to move cross-country, and has never required a schedule for a penny back-- though I DEFINITELY owe it to him!!!!!! Bottom line, my dad needs a treat. And a way for his daughter to show him, I appreciate it.

Wow!! What an opportunity this would be. I go to the ocean often just to hear the waves and "watch" the water. I find that no matter how stressful life seems I am blessed to live in California and the ocean is there for me!! There is something soothing, peaceful and transformative about being there. My dream has been to have the opportunity to spend the night in this lovely setting. To hear the waves overnight and feel the salty air.....mmmmmmmmm...yummy!!

I am originally from Oceanside/Carlsbad, but I moved to Colorado to attend vet school. I really need to staycation because the last 2 years that I have lived here I have had little time to do anything fun, or any money. I pay out of state tution (250,000 for 4 years). I go to school 5 days a week and work 12 hours on Saturdays, where I have to drive an hour to work. I have only 1 day off a week and my boyfriend and I have not had a weekend together since I moved here, which is putting stress on our relationship. We could use a "staycation" and I could get to go home and see my family.

As parents to 3 kids, 2 with developmental disabilities (Down syndrome and autism), we're both exhausted and broke all the time. My husband works 60 hour weeks (often more) so I can be available to take care of our childrens' needs. I also volunteer in the special needs community. We haven't had a vacation in many years and would love to win this staycation! Sitting by the pool while our children enjoy the water would be heavenly. Thank you for your consideration.

I am a CPA and just finished a really busy tax season working very long hours during the week and on weekends. During tax season I have very little time with my family and I would LOVE a staycation to relax and spend some time with them, as well as provide a thank you to them for holding down the fort and fending for themselves while I am working. My fiancee was very helpful with my daughters while I was working. I have two daughters in middle and high school and they are busy with activities and could use the down time too, but because of school, a longer vacation is just not feasible. We would all very much appreciate some time to relax, re-charge and spend some quality time together. :)

I'd like this staycation not for me or my hard working boyfriend....but for my house. You have no idea what a 24 to 36 hour break will do for your floors when you have a dog that sheds like crazy.

Last time we went on vacation it involved a long car trip - and every 5 minutes one of the kids asked if we were there yet? We must have heard it a million times on our 7 hour drive. It would be so cool to pack up the kids - get in the car and tell them we are going away - when the inevitable question came up after 5 minutes - are we there yet??? - We could pull into the Sheraton and say - YES - we are here!!!!. The look on their faces would be priceless!!!! I am the busy Mom of 3 kids - 7 year old twin boys, one who has special needs, and a 3 year old daughter - My husband's job keeps him busy and away from the family a lot so - getting the chance to spend some fun time together by having a "staycation" would be fantastic!

I got a divorce 2 years ago. Since then my daughter and I have been living with my parents. My daughter is 6 years old, but is so attached to me that she still sneaks into my bed at night. I don't think I have had a full 8 hours of sleep in years. I have almost no privacy living with my parents. I need a staycation to simply get a good night sleep!

A staycation is an awesome thing, and I would love and deserve to win one. But I admit, after reading the heartfelt first 2 entries, (Anthony & definitely Gwens) I believe they should win it hands down. My story is just a single mom of 2 daughters, high school and college students and trying to constantly make ends meet. Very tough times in this economy on a single income. Struggling, but getting by.

I definitely need a break. In December 2011 i suffered two seizures while driving on two different days. I totalled my car, the DMV suspended my license pending medical release. I was providing in home care for a client 68yrs old and we were evicted from my home of 11 years by the HOA in January 2012. I lost my car, my home and my job in the blink of an eye. I have a care companion animal and we are now taking the local busses everywhere seeking housing, employment and medical care. We are effectively homeless at this point, staying with friends for shelter at night and hygiene needs. We need a staycation with warm running water! Gail and Angel.
