Carlsbad Playreaders Presents New Play 'Iron Kisses'

Award-winning director and actors will bring reading to life.

The Carlsbad Playreaders season continues with a new play on May 16 at 7:30 p.m. at Carlsbad City Library’s . Iron Kisses will be directed by ion theatre company’s producing artistic director, Glenn Paris, and features distinguished San Diego performers Jessica John (Moonlight’s Barefoot in the Park and Cygnet’s Private Lives), Tom Hall (ion’s Hurlyburly and Intrepid’s King John) and Mike Jensen (ion’s The Lieutenant of Inishmore).

Iron Kisses is an evocative and poignant play about a family facing personal, social and political challenges, rendered in a unique and innovative way,” says Paris. “Two actors play son and daughter, and each portrays both mother and father.”

Paris most recently directed Wonder Wounded Heroes, Parasite Drag and Hurlyburly for ion theatre company. He is a graduate of the prestigious Carnegie Mellon University, with an MFA in Directing, and was named San Diego’s Producer of the Year 2010 by the San Diego Critics Circle.

Tom Hall, who plays the father and son in Iron Kisses, has appeared locally with Intrepid Shakespeare Co., where he is a resident artist, ion theatre company, New Village Arts, North Coast Repertory Theatre, 6th @ Penn and La Jolla Playhouse.

Jessica John, who appears as the mother and daughter in Iron Kisses, was last seen at Moonlight at the Avo as Corey Bratter in Barefoot in the Park.  She has appeared in numerous productions at theaters around San Diego county including Cygnet Theatre, North Coast Repertory Theater and New Village Arts.

Tickets are a suggested $5 donation for adults and $1 for students and available at the door of the Schulman Auditorium the evening of the performance. For more information, visit carlsbadplayreaders.org.
