Carlsbad Playreaders Presents the Winter Love Story "Almost, Maine"

This delightful midwinter night's dream has been hailed by critics as "nearly perfect."

Join Carlsbad Playreaders for the winter love story Almost, Maine on Monday, Dec. 5 at 7:30 p.m. Written by John Cariani and directed by Maelyn Gándola, Almost, Maine introduces characters that are literal and real but placed in a fantastical landscape.

Something extraordinary is unfolding in the remote, mythical town of Almost, Maine on a cold, moonless night in the middle of winter. Illuminated by the northern lights and a star-filled sky above, Almost's residents find themselves falling in and out of love in unexpected, hilarious, and sometimes heart-wrenching ways.

"Thematically we are grappling with what just might be insurmountable: love,” mused Almost, Maine director Gándola.  “And love makes children of us all. Wide-eyed, joyous, stubborn, authentic children – and not always in the best of ways, but unceasingly it is the quality of living absolutely in the moment that transcends everything.”

As audience members watch the Almost, Maine story unfold, “we invite them to daydream, hope, and imagine what almost could be, with the boldness of a child,” Gándola concluded.

The play reading takes place at, located at 1775 Dove Lane. Suggested donations are $5 for adults and $1 for students. For more information, visit carlsbadplayreaders.org.
