Carlsbad Reads Together's Suspenseful Ending

Carlsbad City Library's community reading program concludes with a series of free special events.

Carlsbad City Library’s Carlsbad Reads Together, a community reading event featuring T. Jefferson Parker’s Iron River, continues the next two weeks with events and lively book discussions. In Iron River, Parker’s beloved character Charlie Hood is tracking the flow of illegal guns into Mexico. Two special events will delve into the theme of the book, which has been praised by the Los Angeles Times as “Pitch-perfect … gripping literary entertainment.”

Tuesday, April 17 at 7 p.m.
Join the library and Carlsbad High School’s award-winning Speech and Debate Team for a debate of the critical issues in Iron River at this entertaining and thought-provoking event. If you haven’t had a chance to read Iron River, you’ll still enjoy seeing these talented students in action. The debate will take place at Carlsbad’s Georgina Cole Library, 1250 Carlsbad Village Drive.

Thursday, April 19 at 7 p.m.
The library will hold “A Look Behind Iron River,” a panel discussion to explore the theme of the book, in its Ruby G. Schulman Auditorium, 1775 Dove Lane. Dr. Vivienne Bennett, professor of Border Studies at Cal State University San Marcos, will serve as the event moderator. Panelists include Dr. Nathan Jones, adjunct professor at University of San Diego, and Jose Luis Jiménez, social media/Web editor of KPBS’ Fronteras Desk.
