My Funny Valentines

Two hilarious comedians with ZERO relationship expertise- NONE, ZILCH, NADA; but that won’t stop them from expounding on the subject for this most special of days.

Comedians Lamont Ferguson and Lauren O’Brien take the stage at the Carlsbad Village Theatre for a special (before) Valentine’s Day stand-up comedy show. Lauren O’Brien is a comedian turned morning radio personality on “The Mikey Show” on San Diego’s FM 94/9. She happened upon her first comedy gig back in 2004 when she was in desperate need of fast money. Answering a craigslist ad that read “Get Paid to Have Fun” proved to be the first time that Lauren would actually enjoy going to work. She starred as the very respectable “Office Party Drunk” in an Internet campaign for the SD Union Tribune that quickly became a worldwide viral video.

After this first gig, Lauren caught the comedy bug and began an acting, sketch comedy and stand-up career. National spots include a music video for Barack Obama’s presidential campaign by Dave Stewart called “American Prayer” and appearing on the Food Network. Locally, you may remember her as the very glamorous and very nimble furniture model in a series of “Jerome’s Furniture” commercials.

Lauren got her start in radio when the show’s host, Mike Esparza, stumbled across her stand-up comedy routine on YouTube.

In a career that has spanned longer than his appearance may show; Ferguson has appeared on Comedy Central, Comics Unleashed and Last Comic Standing (quarterfinalist).  In addition to his television credits, he was named LA’s Hottest Comic (KMPC radio/The Improv Comedy Club), a finalist in the San Francisco Comedy Competition (the nation’s longest running contest); a distinction that he shares with great comedy names such as Robin Williams, Ellen DeGeneres, Dana Carvey and Kevin Pollak; Winner of the Seattle International Comedy Competition (the nation’s second longest running comedy contest); Twice named “Top Ten Comics” at the Boston Comedy Festival and he has the distinguished honor of being the opening act for Bill Cosby, George Lopez, Steve Harvey, Garry Shandling, Larry Miller  and the late great George Carlin.

Alongside his career achievements, the father of 3 children has had his experience with the ups and downs of relationships.  “This show is going to be a lot of fun.” The show is a relationship based stand-up show.  “I don’t do any women bashing type of stuff; it’s my odd, non-expert insight into the workings of the mystery. The best compliment I’ve received on the show is from a woman that said, it’s a woman’s view on relationships as spoken by a man. I have no idea what that means, but I like it.”
