As part of the Museum of Making Music’s ongoing live performance series, “Spirit of the Stick” will feature a rare opportunity to hear the Chapman Stick - one of the most notable stringed instrument innovations in recent history - performed by the musical instrument's inventor Emmett Chapman. Joining Chapman will be Tom Griesgraber, one of the world’s most respected and active performers on the Chapman Stick. The presentation will include the progressive and jazz tunes of both musicians, as well as a look into the origin and techniques of this unique instrument.
A member of the guitar and bass family, the Chapman Stick evokes the sounds of four major instruments – guitar, piano, bass and drums – on a single instrument. Chapman, a jazz musician who was originally a guitarist, first created the instrument in 1974 to embody the advantages of the tapping method used on guitar.
Tickets to “Spirit of the Stick” are $20 for general admission and $15 for Museum members.
