The West Coast Funnies with Kurt Swann, the monthly comedy variety show. The show combines the sketch comedy aspects of Saturday Night Live with a Daily Show type current events newscast, this surrounds the show’s centerpiece of top-notch professional stand up comedy; all presented in Tonight Show type talk show presentation. The popular Carlsbad mainstay is in its 9th year of production.
Headlining for this month is Jackie Kashian. In 1985, Jackie got drunk and heckled Sam Kinison in Madison, Wisconsin. She was told, by management, that open mike night was on Sundays. Just three weeks later she did open mike. In the 25 years since then, she has amassed a list of credits that even the late legend Kinison would consider impressive. Jackie Kashian has a half-hour special on Comedy Central that was voted one of the top 25 favorites. She has appeared on CBS, NBC, and the nationally syndicated Radio/TV show Bob and Tom. She has been a national touring comic for over 14 years and has performed at the HBO Comedy Arts Festival, the Bumbershoot Arts Festival in Seattle, Just for Laughs Festival in Montreal and has toured Australia for the Melbourne International Comedy Festival Roadshow. Recently, she traveled to Kuwait and Iraq and performed for the troops.

Also appearing on each show is the sketch group called the Pearl St. Players. The group that originally got its start over 10 years ago at the World Famous Comedy Store in La Jolla, Ca. <Located on Pearl St. by the way> Some of the original members of that group have gone onto become some of Hollywood’s brightest young stars- Mad TV’s Bobby Lee, The Tonight Show’s Shayma Tash and Emmy Award winning writer on Late Night with Conan O’Brien Mike Komen. Now a new crop of funny people is hoping to continue that tradition.
