Ah, another rain-drenched weekend. You, however, aren't the Wicked Witch of the West. You won't melt in the rain. There are plays to be attended, art to be viewed, and French food to be munched!

We’ve got the best bets for you from Feb. 24-27 whether you want to stay close to Carlsbad or take a drive to find even more to do. Check our picks for the places to see and things to do.

This week we feature a visit from a newly-elected senator and an opportunity to see some snow.

BEST BETS, CLOSE TO HOME

Where/when: San Dieguito Academy, Encinitas, opens 8 p.m. Friday.

Why Go: Intrepid Shakespeare Company presents "Richard II," a modernized take on the ruinous effect of the rivalvy between a current and future monarch. Continues weekends through March 20.

Price: $8-25.

Where/when: New Village Arts Theatre, Carlsbad, 6 p.m. Thursday.

Why Go: To be part of the Art by Candlelight show, featuring "Changing Places," an exhibit by artist Marsha Ercegovic. Work by 16 other artists also will be on display.

Price: Free.

BEST BETS, A LITTLE FARTHER AFIELD

Where/when: Oceanside Museum of Art, Oceanside, 6 p.m., Thursday.

Why Go: Appreciate the art of Marc Chagall in a new way, by viewing a documentary about his life and following the film with a French feast provided by the museum.

Price: $29-39.

Where/when: Warwick's, La Jolla, 3 p.m., Saturday.

Why Go: To satisfy your political curiosity. Whether you're a fan or a foe, Tea Party darling Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky, has been riding high since his November election. He arrives to promote his first book.

Price: Must purchase book to meet Paul.

Where/when: Mount Laguna, Julian or Pine Valley, Friday through Sunday.

Why Go: San Diego's rain last weekend meant lots of nice powdery snow for much of the back country. The weather might cooperate again this weekend. So dust off that sled or just put on a good pair of gloves for a nice snowfight. Keep an eye on Ramona Patch for updates on weather and road conditions.
