Love Is in the Air

Carlsbad Playreaders presents a romantic evening of "Stories and Poems" Feb. 14.

Celebrate Valentine’s Day with Carlsbad Playreaders at a special performance titled Stories and Poems on Monday, Feb. 14, at 7:30 p.m. Stories and Poems is directed by Jim Hansen and takes place at Carlsbad City Library’s Ruby G. Schulman Auditorium.

"This event came about when one of our co-founders, Jim Hansen, asked if he could read a poem prior to one of the play readings and it was received positively by our audiences,” said Carlsbad Playreaders Artistic Director Eric Bishop. “We began to explore the possibility of doing it again and realized that we had an abundance of stories and poems that we wanted to share. They didn't quite fit into our traditional program so I suggested that we add an evening to our season.”

Stories and Poems will feature selections from Ray Bradbury, William Saroyan, Henrik Ibsen, Stephen Vincent Benet and others read by actors Eric Bishop, June Gottleib, James and Jim Hansen, Sara Beth Morgan, Jack Missett, Summer Spiro and Kyle Sorrell.

“In the 16-year history of Carlsbad Playreaders, more than 100 plays have been presented,” said Hansen. “Stories and Poems is a first. In honor of Valentines Day, many of the selections are about love in its many forms: romantic love, lost love and maternal love.”

Tickets are a suggested $5 donation for general admission and $1 for students. For more information, call 760-602-2012.
