Summer Heats Up with Hot Club Combo Concert

Carlsbad City Library hosts free concert on July 15 with Patrick Berrogain’s Hot Club Combo featuring Tripp Sprague on saxophone.

Patrick Berrogain’s Hot Club Combo featuring Tripp Sprague on saxophone and Berrogain on guitar presents a free summer concert at Carlsbad’s Georgina Cole Library on Sunday, July 15 at 2 p.m. They will perform lively originals in the Gypsy jazz style as well as arrangements of Django Reinhardt's greatest hits.

Berrogain was born in the south of France and began playing guitar at age 14. When he was 19, he began touring the world with the Italian pop band Delta Landa. He then moved to Ivory Coast, Africa, where he performed pop and musette music. In 1984, Patrick moved to America to follow his dream and study jazz guitar. Since then, his music has been used on radio and television around the world and he has performed alongside some of the world's most celebrated guitarists including Eric Johnson, Doyle Dykes, Albert Lee and Doc Watson.  In 2007, Berrogain created his Gypsy jazz group Hot Club Combo

Sprague is one of the top saxophone players on the San Diego music scene. He performs regularly with groups led by Peter Sprague, Jaime Valle and Shep Myers, and his versatility has led to performances with internationally-renowned acts such as jazz singer Mose Allison, Kenny Loggins, The Little River Band and Motown legends Smokey Robinson, The Four Tops, and The Temptations.

The concert is offered as part of Carlsbad City Library’s Summer Reading Program, featuring reading incentives and entertainment through Aug. 3, thanks to the support of the Friends of the Carlsbad Library. Concert seating is limited and first come, first served. For more information, call 760-602-2026 or visit www.carlsbadlibrary.org.

I'd say the recent events against which they were protesting are far more consequential than aRead More freeway traffic back-up. Just a guess.

How did they cause a backup, exactly? I'm asking because I saw them, and am wondering how theyRead More backed it up. If it's because people were slowing to read the signs, you can't really get mad at them for that.

I stopped using Internet Explorer years ago. Firefox is safer and the possibility of getting aRead More virus is much less. I have no issues with Firefox.

And if you use an IPAD early in the day as I do, the problem is that there is so much on each pageRead More that it is hard to scroll with your finger(s) because there is just so much clutter that you keep losing your story to an annoying ad.
