Valley Middle Students Create Ceramic Pieces Thanks to ArtSplash Grant

Art Teacher Sue de Wulf transformed $700 into a project involving more than 300 students, who sculpted professional-quality ceramic creatures figures utilizing 600 pounds of clay and colorful glazes purchased with grant funds.

ArtSplash, an annual community celebration for arts education taking place this year on September 28-29, 2013 on Armada Drive in Carlsbad, invites North County schools and teachers to apply for grants to fund arts and music programs in school year 2013-14.  The application deadline is August 1, 2013. Recipients will be notified by early September.

Carlsbad Unified School District’s Valley Middle School Art Teacher Sue de Wulf transformed $700 into a project involving more than 300 students, who sculpted professional-quality ceramic creatures figures utilizing 600 pounds of clay and colorful glazes purchased with grant funds.  

To date, ArtSplash has contributed more than $42,000 to school programs highlighting diverse visual and performing arts and music programs. During school year 2012-13, ArtSplash grants totaling $8,672 funded 17 enriching programs in Carlsbad Unified School District, Encinitas Union School District, San Dieguito Union High School District, San Marcos Unified School District and Vista Unified School District as well as La Costa Valley Preschool and Kindergarten.
