Aussies Prevail in Carlsbad Triathlon

Aussies dominant successful Carlsbad Triathlon with two former winners reclaiming their titles.

The usual marine layer was about all that wasn't perfect Sunday morning for the 31st Carlsbad Triathlon, its nearly 1,000 participants and a pair of Australian athletes.

Melbourne's Luke Bell, the men's and overall winner finished the swim/bike/run event with a time of 1:09:24 while fellow Australian Michellie Jones, who now lives and trains in Carlsbad, was the women's winner in 1:15:15. Neither race was close as Bell won by nearly four minutes over his nearest competitor and Jones crossed the finish line almost five minutes ahead of second place Sierra Snyder (1:20:14) while Juliana Bahr-Thomson was third in 1:23:30.

Following Bell in the men's race were Juliano Teruel (1:13:21), Thomas Taylor (1:13:28), Erik Nau (1:13:55), Lance Capel (1:14:44), Karl Schultz (1:16:25), Chris Fetter (1:16:33) and Mitch Thrower (1:21:33).
