Just in case you happen to be amazed by the beauty and grace of the hundreds of brown pelicans that fly over our shores, following is the rundown on the rehab program for injured pelicans from all over San Diego County by SeaWorld:
- So far in 2013 the have taken in 11 pelicans (5 have been returned to the wild). Four birds are in hand now (two from a year ago, two others since Jan. 1).
- In 2012 SeaWorld took in a total of 276 brown pelicans.
They are injured in a variety of ways. Hopefully, I'll get more info on the program for you in the near future including a trip to the rehab facility to see first-hand the rehab process and I'll find out ways you can help.
