has been serving huge portions of what they call "gourmet home cooking" in Carlsbad since 1995, yet somehow both Ann Zevely and I had never been.
The restaurant located at 4901 El Camino Real has a giant chicken on the roof. We later learned the building was once an egg farm.
Plenty of egg dishes were on the menu, but Ann and I were there for lunch. I ordered the Yodeling Pig. The sandwich has shaved pork, Swiss cheese and honey mustard dressing. I also got a side salad with the most amazing avocado ranch dressing. After that, I could only eat half the sandwich, but it didn't disappoint. I gave the whole meal five forks up.
With a huge appetite ready for anything, Ann ordered the burger No. 5. Our waitress recommended it, and with a huge bite Ann set the flavors in motion. When all you get is a smile and a nod you know she loved it. She gave her meal five forks saying, "I love the atmosphere here, and I love how unique it is."
The place's theme is "Bobby." Anyone named Bob or Robert or a variation of the name gets a photo on the wall.
The menu is huge, the portions are even bigger, the service is great, and don't forget to save room for dessert. Ann and I treated ourselves to a warm peach-berry cobbler with ice cream on top. It was worth every calorie.
