Callaway Golf Gets New CEO

The Carlsbad-based golf equipment-maker Callaway Golf Co. named a new president and CEO Monday.

Chip Brewer, who for a decade was CEO of Adams Golf, will replace Tony Thornley, effective March 5, according to the . Thornley, who took the leadership of Callaway on an interim basis last June, is expected to remain on the Board of Directors, and Brewer will join the board.

"Chip has extensive knowledge of all facets of the golf business, particularly in the sales and marketing area, and has a real passion for the game of golf," said board Chairman Ronald Beard. "Chip also has great relationships with customers and others in the golf industry and he has done a great job turning around and leading Adams Golf."

Brewer has been with Adams Golf, of Plano, Texas, since 1998. Thornley replaced longtime Callaway head George Fellows last year amid a management shake-up in the wake of a in the second quarter of its fiscal year. At the time, Thornley said the company had not only suffered from the global economic slump, but also failed to keep pace with the golf industry's recovery.
