Carlsbad Chamber Supports Green Businesses

Carlsbad company Logo Green is among several who have taken advantage of the Chamber of Commerce's green initiatives.

Did you know your car's tires could be recycled into a coaster, jar opener or keychain? Mouse pads can be made out of recycled cardboard, corn can be used to make a coffee mug and bamboo can be turned into T-shirts.

All those products are sold by Carlsbad company Logo Green. Reena Jordan provides companies who want to be eco-friendly with promotional products that better the environment.

Jordan showcases her products at the 's Green Expo and enjoys being part of the chamber's sustainability committee. "What really stands out to me is that this chamber is not fluff. Our meetings are centered around education and upcoming legislation," explained Jordan.

Sustainability members brings their own water mugs to meetings. Chamber President and CEO Ted Owen said they encourage members to get into the sustainable business. "I'm not sure if green business will be boom or bust, but it's important for chambers to help them move into the industry."

Jordan agreed that it's still a struggle to be profitable selling green products. "I think because of the economy, my green industry hasn't been amazing but I think more education is needed," she said.

The Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce buys bamboo shirts from Logo Green. "They are very comfortable. I don't perspire as much," said Owen. The chamber also changed its lighting to mostly Solatube lighting a few years ago, saving them $400 a month in electrical bills. Solatube is also a member of the chamber.
