Carlsbad's Ocean House Restaurant Closes, Upset Bride Has 4 Weeks to Find a New Wedding Venue

Candace Zylman said she asked Ocean House back in June if the flooding damage at the restaurant will be fixed by her Sept. 29th wedding and she was told not to worry.

Candace Zylman is scrambling to find a new wedding venue within her budget for her Sept. 29 wedding after being told last Friday that Ocean House is closing.

"In early May of this year, Ocean House Restaurant suffered extensive flood damage from a ruptured sprinkler pipe in the space above our lobby.  Since that time, the insurance company has been working continuously to get the restaurant back in to operating condition, and it should be finished soon.  During that time, an offer to purchase the restaurant was received, and the business is currently in escrow.
We do not intend to re-open Ocean House. We tried to notify everyone who had future reservations, events, and entertainment planned at the facility, and to assist them in any way possible. We're very sorry for any inconvenience suffered by anyone," wrote Martin Blair with Ocean House in an email to Carlsbad Patch.

Candace said she felt like they strung her along, never mentioning plans to sell the restaurant. "I called them in June to see if the flooding would affect us, and we were told it would be fine," she said to Carlsbad Patch over the phone.

With invitations sent out, rsvp's coming in, and people traveling internationally, Candace said it's too late to change the date of her wedding.

"Apparently we're not the only ones left in a lurch, other weddings have been cancelled," said Candace who added, "they should have been upfront with us in June."
