Developer of Carlsbad's Desalination Plant Announces New CEO

Poseidon Resources has named Carlos Riva chief executive officer.

The company building Carlsbad's ocean water desalination plant Poseidon Resources announced the hiring of a new chief executive officer Monday.

Carlos Riva was most recently the CEO of San Diego-based Verenium Corp., which specializes in biofuels and industrial enzymes. The desalination plants, long challenged by environmental organizations, will produce 50 million gallons of potable water daily. "(Poseidon) has done a remarkable job bringing forward these large infrastructure projects in a very challenging regulatory environment and is now poised for significant growth,"  Riva said. "Poseidon has built important strategic relationships with public agencies and world-class engineering contractors that will be important to our success as we move ahead with our development and construction program."

The plant in Carlsbad has cleared the regulatory process and is under construction, another one in Huntington Beach is in the final permitting process, according to the company.
