Cafecito recently celebrated its six-month anniversary at Carlsbad City Library. The coffee kiosk, located in the library’s courtyard, serves coffee, tea, espresso drinks, smoothies, juices, baked goods, snacks and more. Cafecito is owned and operated by local barista and North County resident Belinda Canez. We caught up with Canez recently to find out what’s new at Cafecito.
Tell us about Cafecito’s newest offerings.
We are now offering lunch items including stuffed croissants with a side of fruit. These savory croissants are stuffed with either ham and cheddar or turkey and Swiss. In addition, if you want to cool off on hot summer days, we offer 100% fruit smoothies and our "summer" flavor is Pineapple Paradise. In July, we will introduce Perky Jerky a new high-protein, ultra-premium, functional food for active lifestyles. Made with premium, all-natural turkey (no MSG or nitrates) and a proprietary seven-ingredient marinade that includes guarana, a small berry from the Amazon that is a natural source of caffeine. Packed with gourmet flavor, this jerky is a pick-me-up!
What have you enjoyed most about your library location?
I really enjoy the fact that our services complement all the activities that go on in the library. We've gotten such positive feedback from the patrons who frequent the library and feel that Cafecito enhances the library as a cultural space. I've become an avid reader in the last few months and I attribute that to being exposed to some wonderful people and recommendations – the amazing Friends of the Library used bookstore helps too!
What special plans do you have for summer?
Cafecito co-sponsors a nonprofit event with World Vision every year to build awareness of local and international nonprofits. This year it will take place at the Carlsbad City Library's Courtyard on Saturday, July 7 from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Come enjoy an afternoon of live music by Yael & Vladimir, samplings from our cafe, a dance performance and a great international artisan fair trade market. It's a chance to talk to a passionate group of organizations who want to change the world for the better.
Cafecito’s hours are Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Library patrons may enjoy food and covered drinks inside the library. For more information about Cafecito, visit cafecito.org.
