Photo Gallery: Pro Cyclists Ride 124 Miles for UCSD EyeMobile

Carlsbad-based company SPY Optic's hosts the inaugural Belgian Waffle Ride.

Cyclists rode the streets of Carlsbad Sunday to raise funds for the UCSD EyeMobile for Children.

The 124-mile ride—labeled the Belgian Waffle Ride and hosted by Carlsbad-based SPY Optic's—attracted 150 professional cyclists who raised more than $5,000 for the cause.

"We wanted to bring something unique to North America and specifically to North [San Diego] County," said SPY CEO Michael Marckx who has Belgian roots and has participated in rides for 35 years. "Belgium is home to some of the hardest races in the world so we thought it would be fun to bring that here but we also wanted to make sure we did it for the right reason."

The ride—which included top cyclists Ryan Trebon and Nicole Duke—preceeded with Belgian waffles and ended with Belgian ales.

Marckx—a Leucadia resident who also participated in the ride—said he plans to make the event annual in an effort to raise awareness about UCSD EyeMobile for Children which has served more than 80,000 children in the county since 2000.

'...MPH degree program to attend a 3-day workshop ... challenge the CNA licensure examination inRead More California.... ... Aristotle felt that by becoming licensed professionals in the U.S. shortly after their arrival to the shores of the U.S., they would have a greater opportunity to receive better clinical positions when they applied for the work-study internships that they were eligible to participate in....' the school told students that were enrolled in masters' degrees that certification as a cna was part of the road to obtaining a masters degree ?? stop right there... masters in public health is an administrative position that has nothing to do with being a cna....and i'm sure people didn't travel thousands of miles to do the grunt work in a hospital.... yea, getting a cna license is a great suggestion for an 18 year old that's going into the nursing field....but not for someone in the masters' program.... and fyi phony college.....in this country a person has to have a 4 year degree before they can apply for the masters' program....
