TaylorMade Golf Goes to Bat for Its R11 Driver

The Carlsbad company joins with the Padres in a unique advertising campaign at Petco Park.

There are baseball clubs and there are golf clubs, but Carlsbad-based TaylorMade has found a way to combine the two at Petco Park.

The golf manufacturer and the San Diego Padres have partnered in a unique advertising venture for TaylorMade's R11 driver. Earlier this week, a construction crew assembled an 80-foot-high version of the club just inside the right-field foul pole at Petco.

The facsimile club weighs 950 pounds and took 250 man hours to construct. The grip and the shaft extend from the tip of the foul pole down to the fence, where the R11's white clubhead is depicted in a 14-by-8-foot image on the fence. Fans will get their first chance to view the addition to the foul pole when the Padres open a four-game series with the Phillies Thursday night.

"The Padres are proud to partner with yet another strong local company, and we are excited to showcase its presence at Petco Park in such an innovative way," said Padres CEO and vice chairman Jeff Moorad.

The deal is a three-year agreement, and TaylorMade will donate $600 to a local charity for every home run hit by the Padres at Petco Park.
