Live TV Blackout for Bolts vs. ’Boys: Chargers Fall Short of Stadium Sellout

Preseason game will be shown on a delayed basis beginning at 9:30 p.m. Saturday on Channel 8.

The Chargers announced that they failed to sell enough tickets by Wednesday’s 6 p.m. deadline and Saturday’s preseason game against the Dallas Cowboys at Qualcomm Stadium will not be telecast live in Southern California.

The game will be shown on a delayed basis beginning at 9:30 p.m. Saturday and replayed at 11:35 p.m. Sunday on KFMB-TV Channel 8.

Under the NFL’s long-standing policy, live telecasts for games failing to sell out 72 hours before kickoff are not allowed within a 75-mile radius of the stadium, including all areas whose television signal reaches within the 75-mile zone.

That means that Los Angeles-based KCBS-TV Channel 2 will have to show the game on a delayed basis beginning at 11:30 p.m.

Nearly 5,600 general tickets remain for the game and can be bought online at Chargers.com, by calling TicketMaster (800) 745-3000, at TicketMaster
outlets or Qualcomm Stadium Gate 3. A variety of club seats and a limited number of single-game luxury suites are also available.

Yeah, I'm not forking out big ticket money for watching 2nd &3rd stringers play 99% of game! Plus the parking costs, high prices at snack bar, crowded restrooms, and loud mouth a++holes drunk and starting trouble. Now go about your day!

Right, Eric! In fact, it won't be long before you can buy a brand new HDTV, an air conditioner, recliner, brewskis, brats, nachos and a large foam finger for less that a trip to the live game! If you can get your neighbors to sit behind you and scream for the other team, slap you on the back when they score, etc., and spill a beer down your neck in the second half - it's better than being there! Of course, it's YOUR CALL. As you know, "A Man's House is his Stadium!" so you can always have the neighbors ejected if it looks like the home team is gonna lose.

Love the Bolts and would still support them if they moved at least say.......101 miles away. I used to have season tickets in the worst of times and just couldn't stand bringing my family to the stadium with rowdy, vulgar language and so many drunks. I gave up my tickets after many years of being a faithful fan. I have so much more fun watching the games on HDTV with friends and family, even at our local pub. Alcohol is obviously plentiful at your local pub and there never seems to be the aggression there. Pro sports in general must get a handle on their games/fans, as people seem to be getting less and less civil to one another.

Went to see pre-season game versus Packers... Bought tickets on stubhub or we could no afford to go. Original price -$68 per seat for 5 people (I paid $23 each) 5 drinks 5 snacks=$65 (not even hot hotdogs, just peanuts and popcorn) No wonder no one goes to the games, I can't afford to go again as I am sure most people can't.

It’s disappointing that the Chargers game is on a blackout, but I have NFL Network so I will be able to see the game. Unfortunately I won’t be able to watch it live, but I will be recording it on my Dish Hopper so I can see how the game goes for Rivers and company. I’ve been able to record preseason games and favorite shows with more than enough room on my DVR. My coworkers at Dish always like to keep their eyes on how the Chargers are doing since they are one of the Broncos biggest rivals, but I think Broncos are due for a sweep with Manning at the helm this season!
