Video: Stunning at 62—Senior Prepares for State Pageant

Elaine Brammell, 62, started competing in pageants two years ago. This past weekend she vied for the title of Ms. Senior California of America.

Elaine Brammell is no stranger to pageants but after almost ten years of directing the Carlsbad Lions Club Miss Carlsbad Pageant she was pressured into entering a senior pageant.

"I was like, I’m way too old for pageants. I’ve never been in a pageant, I’m a shy person, basically. I liked watching them but I never had a desire to be in one," remembered Brammell who is 62.

Then one day she saw an ad in the local paper seeking contestants for the North County Senior Pageant and decided to enter. She didn't win, but she was asked to compete in the 2010 San Diego Senior Pageant a couple weeks later. This time, she won.

Brammell added another crown to her collection this past May after winning Ms. Senior Pasadena 2012. This past weekend, Elaine competed for the title of Ms. Senior California.

In addition to being in pageants and being a pageant director, Brammell accidentally found herself in the sash making business. She said after being frustrated by the lack of good sashes for her Carlsbad queens and princesses she started making them herself.

"Other directors from other pageants saw my girls' sashes and wanted them," said Brammell.

She now runs a successful sash making business out of her Carlsbad home, catering to not only pageants but also birthday parties, bridal showers, sororities, parades and more.
