Videos Show Aptera Destroying Cars; Public Auction Announced

Less than a week after Carlsbad-based Aptera Motors announced it has closed, Youtube videos were uploaded showing the prototypes of the cars being destroyed.

was a company located in Carlsbad which was developing a futuristic three-wheeled car with a fuel efficiency equivalent to 300 miles per gallon and solar panels on the roof.

With the company closed, someone has decided to upload videos on Youtube showing prototypes of the cars being destroyed. FoxNews.com reports the activity was sanctioned by Aptera management. But, "according to Aptera, the videos were shot this past April at the Carlsbad, California-based company’s former headquarters in Oceanside, Calif., which it began vacating in May. The teardrop-shaped chassis seen being thrown around by forklifts and crushed into walls are flawed prototypes that were being disposed of intentionally, and subjected to a little impromptu crash testing in the process."

Those prototypes may be wrecked, but there's still plenty of equipment that's functioning at Aptera. As part of the company's liquidation, Heritage Global Partners will be holding an auction Tues. Dec. 20 from 7 a.m. through Wed. Dec. 21 at 10 a.m. An on-site, open to the public preview will be held on Monday, Dec. 19 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Aptera Motors headquarters located at 2765 Loker Avenue West in Carlsbad.

Heritage Global Partners says there will be manufacturing equipment, including an Instron 5982 tensile tester, elegant office furnishings, computers, and automotive repair, material handling and facility equipment up for auction.

"The majority of Aptera's equipment available for auction was purchased in 2010 and is nearly new," said Kirk Dove, Managing Partner of Heritage Global Partners.
