Carlsbad Retirement Community Residents Raise Money for Local Boys and Girls Club

Carlsbad By The Sea Retirement Community residents and staff raised $320.73 for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Carlsbad by logging more than 220 miles over a 10-day period on the CyberCycle, an innovative, interactive recumbent exercise bicycle created by Interactive Fitness and used at Carlsbad By The Sea.

Along with pledges from fellow residents, staff and their family members, Interactive Fitness pledged $0.25 for each mile while Carlsbad By The Sea’s partner foundation, California Lutheran Homes, matched the total pledges for a total amount donated of $641.46. A check was presented to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Carlsbad on Oct. 22.

Earlier this year, residents of Carlsbad by the Sea participated in a pilot program using the CyberCycle and competed against another retirement community. Carlsbad By the Sea won the challenge.

Front Porch Retirement Communities, which runs Carlsbad by the Sea, has purchased additional CyberCycles for its other locations after seeing great success with the pilot program. Evidently, Carlsbad by the Sea residents have found ways to use the machine for benefits other than mental and physical health.
